Final Word
Are you tired of agency work that comes and goes? Do you want a long-term job with a skilled removals firm that runs Class 1 road trains across the UK and Europe? If so, Elite Moving is the next step for you.
We are hiring now.
Work from Wallington, Surrey.
Trips to Europe each week.
Skilled, experienced staff only.
What a Working Week Looks Like for Our Class 1 Drivers
No two weeks are quite the same at Elite Moving. A normal week mixes local jobs in London with longer trips across Europe. You might start the week on a house move in Croydon or Sutton. Later in the week you could be loading a road train for a family who is moving to France or Spain.
Before each trip, our office team plans the route, the ferry or tunnel crossing and the drop-off times. You get the plan, the paperwork and the contact details for each customer. That way you know what to expect before you leave the yard, and you can raise any questions early.
On a European run, you will often collect from more than one home and drop off in more than one country. Some loads are for one family with a dedicated vehicle. Others are shared loads, where several customers have goods on the same lorry. Good planning and careful loading keep each customer's things apart and safe.
When you get back, the next job is usually not far away. We keep our drivers busy with steady, planned work, so you are not left waiting by the phone for the next shift. That is a big change from agency work, where hours can stop with no warning.
What We Look for in Drivers, Porters and Packers
For our driving jobs, you need a full Class 1 (C+E) licence, a valid tachograph driver card and a current Driver CPC card. You should be happy to drive large vehicles in busy cities, on narrow streets and on long motorway runs. A clean record and a calm, safe style of driving matter a lot to us.
Removals is a hands-on job, so our drivers also help to load, unload and carry. You should be fit and strong, and you should know how to lift safely. You also need to know how to wrap and strap furniture so that nothing moves on the road.
For porters, we want people who turn up on time, work hard and treat each home with care. You will carry boxes and furniture, protect floors and doors, and help take apart and rebuild beds, tables and wardrobes. Good manners with customers are just as important as strong arms.
For packers, we need people with a careful eye and steady hands. You will wrap glass, china, pictures and other fragile items with the right materials. You will also label boxes clearly, so that the unloading team knows exactly where each one goes in the new home.
Driving Removals Across Europe: What to Expect
Driving a removal lorry in Europe is not the same as driving one at home. You will drive on the right, use foreign toll roads and deal with different speed limits and rules. Many cities also have low emission zones and access rules for large vehicles, so the route plan matters.
Since Brexit, every load that leaves the UK needs the right customs paperwork. Our office team prepares the documents and the inventory for each move. As the driver, you keep the papers safe, show them at the border and make sure the load matches the list. If anything is unclear, you can call the office for help.
Old town centres in places like Italy, Spain and France often have narrow streets and tight corners. Sometimes a road train cannot reach the front door. In those cases, we plan a shuttle with a smaller van, or we arrange parking in advance. You will need patience and a good sense of space.
You will also spend nights away from home on longer trips. We plan rest stops so you can take your breaks and keep to the driving hours rules. Safe, well-rested drivers are the key to safe moves, and we never ask anyone to cut corners on rest.
How to Get Ready for Your First Weeks With Us
Once you join, you will spend your first few days on local jobs with an experienced crew. This helps you learn how we wrap, load and strap each item. It also shows you how we talk to customers and how we leave each home clean and tidy.
Make sure your licence, driver card and Driver CPC card are all in date before you start. Bring good work boots, gloves and clothes you can move in. On trips abroad, you will also need a valid passport, so check the expiry date well before your first European run.
Our office team will show you how we plan each job, how we fill in the inventory and how the customs papers work. Ask as many questions as you like. We would much rather you ask than guess, as small mistakes on paperwork can hold up a load at the border.
As you settle in, we will match you with the kind of work that suits you best. Some of our team love the long European runs. Others prefer to stay close to home on house and office moves in London. We try to find the right balance for each person.
Why Join the Elite Moving Team
At Elite Moving, you are part of a close team, not just a name on a list. You work with the same crew most days, so you get to know each other and work well together. Our office staff are always at the end of the phone when you are on the road.
We offer steady work all year round, with a good mix of local jobs and trips to Europe. Our work covers house removals, office moves, storage, packing and moves abroad. That means you learn new skills and gain real experience across the whole trade.
To apply, call us on 07428474474 or 02080444474, or send an email to info@elitemoving.co.uk. Tell us which job you want and a little about your past work. If you would like to learn more about what we do first, take a look at our European removals and international removals pages.
Class 1 Driver, Porter and Packer Jobs: Your Questions Answered
What licence and cards do I need to drive for Elite Moving?
You need a full C+E licence so you can drive our road trains and large removal lorries. You also need a valid driver card for the tachograph and an up-to-date Driver CPC card. Removals experience is a big plus, because you will help load and unload as well as drive.
Will I be driving in Europe every week?
Most of our road train drivers mix London work with trips to Europe. We run European removals every week, to places such as France, Spain, Italy and Germany. The exact routes change from week to week, so we will talk you through the plan before each trip leaves our base.
Do porters and packers travel to Europe too?
Yes, they often do. Many of our moves abroad need a full crew to pack, load and unload at each end. Porters and packers who are happy to travel can join the team on these trips. Others prefer to stay on local jobs around London and the South East, and that is fine too.
Where do shifts start for drivers, porters and packers?
Our base is at Godalming Avenue in Wallington, Surrey, on the south London border near Croydon and Sutton. Most days start there, with the crew picking up the vehicle and kit for the job. From Wallington we head out to homes and offices across London and the UK, or down to the coast for a trip into Europe.
