Every move to Belgium starts with a survey. We can visit your home or do it by video call. This tells us how much you have, what needs extra care and how easy it is to get in and out of your home. From there, we send you a clear, written quote and agree the dates with you.
On packing day, our team wraps furniture, boxes up your things and labels each box by room. If you would rather pack yourself, we can supply strong boxes and tape, or just pack the fragile items for you. Large items like beds and wardrobes can be taken apart and put back together at the other end.
Your goods then travel by road and cross the Channel by ferry or the tunnel. Belgium is one of the closest countries to the UK, so the trip is short compared with most European moves. Once in Belgium, we deliver to your door, carry everything to the right rooms and rebuild your furniture.
Many Belgian cities have narrow streets, trams and busy centres. In places like Brussels, Antwerp and Ghent, you may need a permit to park a removal lorry outside your home. These are often booked through the local council, and it is best to sort this out early. Ask us if you are not sure what is needed for your street.
Flats in older Belgian buildings can have small lifts or steep stairs. Some removal firms use an outside lift that goes up the front of the building and in through a window. Let us know about the floor you live on, any lift and the size of the doors. Photos of the entrance help us plan the right team and kit.
Keep a box of things you will need on the first night. Pack bedding, a kettle, a few plates, toiletries, phone chargers and any medicines. Your passport, keys and travel papers should stay with you, not on the lorry. This way, you can settle in straight away, even before the last box is unpacked.
Once you arrive, there are a few jobs to do. In Belgium, new residents usually need to register with the local town hall soon after moving in. You should also look into health cover, a local bank account and how your UK driving licence works there. Rules change, so check the latest advice before you go.
Belgium has more than one official language. Dutch is used in the north, French in the south and both in Brussels. It helps to learn a few key words in the language of your new area. Many people in the cities also speak English, which makes the first few weeks easier while you find your feet.
If you need help with any part of the move, from packing to storage, our team is happy to talk it through. Call us on 07428474474 or 02080444474, or email info@elitemoving.co.uk. We can also help with moves the other way, if you ever need to bring your things home again from Belgium to the UK. We will always give you honest, simple advice.
Yes. We move homes and offices from the UK to all parts of Belgium. That includes Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, Bruges, Leuven and Liège, as well as smaller towns. Tell us your new address when you ask for a quote, and we will plan the route and the delivery day around it.
Yes. If you are not moving a full house, a shared or part-load move can cost much less. Your things travel with other clients' goods going the same way, and you only pay for the space you use. If you need a set date, a dedicated vehicle is the better choice.
Since Brexit, you will usually need an inventory of your goods, a copy of your passport and proof of your new Belgian address. If you are moving there to live, you may be able to bring household goods in without paying duty. Check the current rules, and we will help you get the forms right.
Yes. We can collect your things in the UK and keep them in our secure storage near Wallington. When your new home in Belgium is ready, we book a delivery date that suits you. This is handy when a rental or purchase date moves at short notice.
