A long-distance move takes more planning than a local one, because you cannot pop back for something you forgot. Pack a bag for the first night with clothes, toiletries, medicines, phone chargers, bedding and a kettle. Keep your keys, important papers and any jewellery with you in the car, not on the van.
Make sure we can reach both homes easily. Check whether you need to book parking or a loading bay at either end, and tell us about stairs, lifts and narrow roads. If you live in a flat, let your building manager know the date. Clear access saves time on the day and helps the move run smoothly.
Defrost the freezer the day before, and empty and dry the washing machine. Take apart anything you plan to do yourself, and keep the screws in a labelled bag. If you would rather we did this, our team can take apart and rebuild your furniture as part of the move. Our packing service can also take care of the boxes for you.
Finally, think about the timing. A long trip means your things may arrive later in the day, or the next day if you have booked an overnight move. Plan where you will stay, and keep in touch with our team so you know when to expect the van at your new home.
If anything changes before moving day, such as a new key collection time or a delay on your new home, call us as soon as you can. We will do our best to change the plan, or we can hold your things in secure storage until you are ready.
