Most moves to Lisbon start with a survey. We look at what you plan to take, either at your home or on a video call. This tells us how much space you need and whether a full lorry or a part load suits you best. We then send you a clear quote that sets out what is and is not included.
On packing day, our team wraps furniture in blankets and packs fragile items in strong boxes. We label each box with the room it is going to, so the unload in Lisbon is quick. If you would rather pack yourself, we can supply boxes and tape, or pack just the fragile items with our packing service.
Your goods then travel by road across Europe to Portugal. We keep you updated on the way and agree a delivery window with you. When we arrive, we carry each item to the right room, put beds and wardrobes back together and take away the packing waste if you ask us to.
If your dates do not line up, we can help with that too. Some people leave the UK before their Lisbon home is ready, or need to sell before they buy. We can keep your things in our secure storage for as long as you need, then deliver them to Portugal when you are ready to move in.
Lisbon is a city of hills, and many streets in older areas are steep, narrow and paved with cobbles. Trams also run along some of these roads. This can make it hard to park a large removal lorry outside the door. Before moving day, we look at your new address and plan how to get close to it.
In some areas you may need a permit to park a lorry or block part of a road. Rules can vary by street and by council area, so check with your landlord, agent or the local council before you book. Flats in older buildings may have small lifts or no lift at all, so let us know about stairs early.
For customs, you will usually need a full list of the items you are moving, your passport and proof that you are setting up home in Portugal. Some people can claim relief from import charges if they move their main home. This usually needs you to have lived outside the EU for at least a year and owned the goods for six months, so check the current rules before you move.
Start by sorting your things. Moving abroad is a good time to sell, give away or recycle items you no longer use. Less to move means a smaller load and a lower cost. Think about what will suit your new home, too, as many Lisbon flats are smaller than UK houses.
Keep a bag of things you will need straight away, such as documents, chargers, medicine and a change of clothes. Carry this with you rather than putting it on the lorry. It is also wise to keep copies of your customs papers and inventory in your hand luggage.
Finally, tell us about anything special, such as a piano, artwork or a large wardrobe. We can plan extra wrapping, crates or more people for the day. If you have questions at any point, call us on 07428474474 or 02080444474, or get in touch through our contact page.
Yes. Since Brexit, moving goods from the UK to Portugal needs customs paperwork. You will usually need an inventory of your things, a copy of your passport and proof of your new address. We help you fill in the forms and tell you what to gather early, so nothing holds up your goods at the border.
It depends on the street. Many parts of Lisbon, such as the old town areas, have steep hills, steps and narrow lanes. A large lorry may not fit. In that case we can move your things to a smaller van for the last part of the trip. Send us the address early and we will check the access for you.
Often, yes. With a part load, your things share space on a lorry with goods from other customers. You only pay for the space you use, so it can cost much less than a full lorry. The trade-off is less control over the exact delivery date, so it suits people who can be a little flexible.
Yes. If your new home in Lisbon is not ready, we can keep your things in secure storage near our base in Wallington. When you have the keys, we book a delivery to Portugal. This is useful if you are renting at first while you look for a home to buy.
